Celebration of Belfast Streets in Word and Song, in collaboration with Arts Care



Arts Care artist Paul Stevenson and musician Barry Macaulay will facilitate an interactive performance of song and art celebrating the rich heritage of Belfast Street Songs. Using the old Victorian Moving Panorama also known as Crankie Theatre they will have you singing along and reminiscing on bygone days.



The Strand’s Heritage Officer, Rosie Hickey, will also talk on the origin and evolution of some of East Belfast’s well-known streets.



 



Part of our ‘Heritage Talks’ programme:  free talks about the heritage of the local area, followed by a cuppa and a chat. Hosted by the Strand at our ‘pop-up’ venue at Belmont Bowling Club.  Made possible by The National Lottery Heritage Fund

Silver Screening: The Man In The White Suit U

Chemist Sidney Stratton (Alec Guinness) is at a crossroads in his career. He's been trying to invent a long-lasting clothing fiber, but his unreasonable demands for high-end equipment have gotten him fired from job after job. Finally, Sidney creates a white suit that is impervious to the elements -- it cannot stain or wrinkle. At first he is celebrated as a hero but, soon enough, the clothing manufacturers realize that the perfect suit is actually very bad for business.

Join us for a high-voltage, immersive K-Pop Demon Hunters Sing-A-Long cinema experience packed with music, dance, fandom and film magic. This special event brings audiences together to sing loud, dress cute and celebrate creativity.

A world-renowned K-Pop girl group balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters.



The screening will be introduced by CG Supervisors James Carson and Katherine Jones.  With a strong local connection-James Carson is originally from Belfast - their introduction will be presented as an engaging, educational piece aimed at inspiring young people. They’ll explore how animated films are brought to life and highlight the wide-ranging career opportunities within the creative industries, demonstrating how talent from Northern Ireland contributes to global screen culture.



This event is part of Strand’s programme of special events taking place while the cinema is closed for refurbishment, bringing Strand’s community spirit and cinematic experiences into exciting new spaces across the city.



RENDR is a unique conference and festival that sits at the intersection of creativity and technology, connecting film, gaming, animation and immersive media. Together, Strand and RENDR aim to inspire audiences, nurture curiosity, and showcase the reach and ambition of artists and creatives from Northern Ireland.

While filing for a divorce, beautiful ex-stripper Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe) ends up meeting aging cowboy-turned-gambler Gay Langland (Clark Gable) and former World War II aviator Guido Racanelli (Eli Wallach). The two men instantly become infatuated with Roslyn and, on a whim, the three decide to move into Guido's half-finished desert home together. This richly illustrated talk explores the dance halls that used to be scattered across East Belfast and beyond, from the luxurious Plaza, with its revolving stage, to ‘The Hooley’ and ‘The Hut’!



Presented by the Strand’s Heritage Officer, Rosie Hickey, who reflects on the rise - and decline - of these important social spaces, and explores what is left of them today. She also highlights the fascinating parallels between Belfast’s ‘palaces of dance’ and its ‘picture palaces’.

In Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window, a recuperating photojournalist, L.B. Jefferies, is confined to his apartment with a broken leg and spends his time watching his neighbors through his window. He becomes convinced he witnessed a murder committed by his neighbor, Lars Thorwald, and, with the help of his girlfriend, Lisa, and his nurse, Stella, he investigates.
